Recent Article from NPR is related to this topic:
http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2011/10/18/141432759/how-hairdressers-can-help-fight-skin-cancer#commentBlock

A study from the Archives of Dermatology suggests some stylists and barbers are already informally performing these skin cancer exams on clients.

In a survey of 203 Houston-area hair salon workers, 58 percent of respondents told researchers from Harvard's School of Public Health that they had urged a client at least once to get a mole checked out by a medical professional.

I have two keloids on either side of my ears. i also have a couple of other piercings that healed perfectly fine. Is it just my ears that form keloids? they have become very large and are sometimes itchy and hurt. I plan on coming in I just hope i can get rid of them!

Thank you for this great information about what Mohs micrographic surgery is. I wish I'd had this information about 3 years ago when I had a basal cell carcinoma. I had it removed in my doctors office by having it cut out. It wasn't removed completely the first time and I had to go back and have even more cut out, leaving a big scar where it was on the side of my face. The scar has mostly faded now, but I think I could have avoided it all together if I had known about this procedure.

I appreciate the insight and knowledge presented by Dr. Ellis on this vital topic affecting members in our community. I found Dr. Ellis' presentation on LI Talks to be scientifically based and very useful. Dr. Ellis is clearly a physician who cares deeply about patients' best interests.

Mary,
Thank you for this great question. At the very dilute levels that we discuss in this article, the concentration is not much more than what you would find in a swimming pool. As you know, opening your eyes in the pool can cause some mild irritation or burning.
